Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Former BJP state president and ex-MP Dilip Ghosh on Monday morning criticised the CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress on multiple fronts, addressing ongoing political developments in Bengal. After his morning walk at Newtown Eco Park, Ghosh responded to recent statements and issues ranging from strike calls to recruitment scams and industrial performance.
Speaking on the CPI(M)’s call for a statewide strike on May 20, Ghosh said the move held little relevance in present-day Bengal. “CPI(M) is only trying to show people they still exist. Their allegations have no significance. If they cared about people, the public would not have rejected them. They could not provide food. Modi is giving food to everyone,” he said.
Responding to CPI(M) leader Mohammad Salim’s statement about political change in Bengal, Ghosh stated, “We are also saying change will come. We want change too. But if that happens, BJP will come — they are daydreaming.” He further referred to Salim’s remark that CPI(M) offices are run on money and support from Trinamool workers. “We see red flags because TMC workers put them up. CPI(M) doesn’t even have money for tea. Their office keys are with TMC workers. This is how CPI(M) is being kept alive,” he said.
Ghosh also targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's claims on industrial development. Referring to her visit to Salboni, he said, “She has done thousands of ceremonial inaugurations. But where has actual production taken place? Where is the report? She organises Bengal summits every year but never releases any white paper. Nobody wants to come. Where are the real industries and jobs? What happened to Deocha Pachami? She gives promises before elections but people have seen through them.”
On the SSC recruitment scam, Ghosh said the ongoing movement would continue until there was a court-mandated resolution. “Abhijit Gangopadhyay has also said the same thing. The court has ordered that ineligible candidates be removed and qualified ones be given jobs. Why doesn’t Mamata say that qualified candidates will get their jobs back? She won’t say that because eight thousand people might gherao her house,” he added.
He also confirmed that he would soon visit Murshidabad, which has seen political unrest. “Others are going, and I will go too. I was there on the day of the violence. The police did not allow me in at night. I had gone to hold a rally and protest. Now everyone is going to distribute relief. The party stands with the displaced and the oppressed across Bengal,” Ghosh stated.
